BIRD Engineering BV (Bird) was established on April 1, 1989 as a spin-off from Delft University of Technology. BIRD Engineering focuses on biotech contract research, specifically in the field of industrial microbiology. The aim is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry. Research topics focus mainly on White Biotech, replacing petrochemicals by chemicals produced from organic raw materials with micro-organisms. BIRD researches in fermentation and molecular biology.

BIRD Recruitment started in 1994 and focuses on the recruitment of professionals in the Life Science industry. These professionals are active in R&D, production and sales. Vacancies are filled on permanent or a temporary basis (secondment basis) in the EU. Level of staff is on BSc and Academic level (MSc, PhD, Post-docs).
